OUR STORY
In 2007 me (Sofia) and Sérgio lived for a year in New York and during that time, we found everyday a pile of garbage at our doorstep.
The waste created everyday was shocking and when we went back to Portugal, we came more sensitive to the theme of sustainability.
In 2009, we were with friends reading an article about the Canadian reporter, Vanessa Farquharson, who talked about her blog “Green as a Thistle” and her book “Sleeping Naked Is Green” where, for a year, the reporter kept introducing daily a new sustainable habit in her life. After that we saw that we could do much more in our daily basis and the ideia started there: with small gestures we can make the difference.
We started searching for sustainable solutions that we could include in our daily routine and we found very interesting products. In that moment we thought it would be a good ideia to share those products with all the people that had the same kind of interest in adopting sustainable habits to its life. And so, we created the Pegada Verde!
To us it was clear, we wanted to work with sustainability, we wanted to work with brands that promoted a sustainable lifestyle, that allowed the reuse and are aesthetically appealing, so that whoever used them would be proud to show them.
Despite all the initial difficulties, we bet everything on the Pegada Verde because we believed that this was the way and slowly we managed to change mentalities and behaviors. Fortunately nowadays the sustainability theme is on the spotlights.
Currently we work with brands that excel in the use of quality materials and free of toxic substances. The production process is also taken into account when choosing our partners, we favor fair trade companies and B Corps - companies with a business model aimed at social and environmental development.
In 2018, the Pegada Verde launched its first private label product, the FairStraw, a stainless steel straw fully produced in Portugal.
We believe that every person must make its way, always giving its best. We are for the commitment, for positivism, because sustainability doesn't have to be distressing, it has to be a happy moment, that makes us better in our daily basis.
Thank you for being with us.
